THE HUNDRED HOUSE HOTEL GETS
“CRACKING AGAIN”
Following the amazing success of ‘Pigs in the Palm’, Chef-Patron Richard Maior-Barron has now introduced a flock of chickens to the hotel, providing guests with the freshest eggs possible.
The chickens, known as ‘Ladies of Leisure’, have settled into a fine free range life scritching and scratching about in the grounds of the hotel.
The hotels breakfast menu is now 90% home reared and come the summer months with home grown tomatoes, it will be 100%.
Asked about the next project? We were reminded that Richard also runs Cornwall’s first and fastest expanding Chill-Fresh Soup Company, ‘Country House Soups’ and also' Country Houose Foods' who supply the now famous 'Smoked 100' Cheddar to most of Cornwalls Delicatesants and Restaurants including Rick Steins.
THE GOOD LIFE COMES TO THE HUNDED HOUSE HOTEL
Keeping in line with the food ethic approach introduced by chef Richard Maior-Barron upon taking over the hotel he has now gone one step further by rearing his own pigs.
The two 8 week old cross breeds arrived on Sunday 27th July and soon found that the free-range life was going to be a good one as they have plenty of space and a pig arc that they love to snooze in.
They are known as ‘Pigs in the Palms’ as they have shelter from the sun by Palm Trees, Pear Trees and Fig Trees.
This follows in step with the production of 70% of Vegetables and Salad on site.
The next aim is to produce free range eggs at the beginning of 2009. This has been fully achieved and continues still today.
